Advice on Taking care of African American skin from a MAC beauty expert.

So yesterday I went to a beauty seminar for African American women and a woman from MAC cosmetics gave us some advice for taking care of African American Skin. Here are a few of the key things she mentioned.

  • Less is more. Don't wear allot of make up everyday. African American skin is high quality skin that does need to be covered all of the time. Only contour your face for special events and going out. contouring is an artistry when done right it can slim out chubby face when done wrong you can look like a drag queen.
  • The everyday face. The everyday face for black women should consist of two steps foundation and eyebrows. First fill in eyebrow with a brow pencil. Apply foundation or BB creme all over you face including the eyelids to give the effect that you are wearing eye shadow. concealer should be used to cover up and blemishes or dark marks.
  • Eyebrows. To start of with eye brows invest in a good eyebrow pencil. shape the to your natural shape brown and conceal underneath and on top. concealer should be no more than five shade down from your foundation color. When you go to get eyebrows waxed or threaded please do not apply makeup afterwards or beforehand because you don't want anything irritating that area.
  • Dark spots. Dark spots come from us popping and picking at pimples and then going out in the sun with out sun screen and the sun darkens that area. Clean the affected area and apply sunscreen for protection. To get rid of existing dark spots apply lemon juice and honey mix to the area
  • Facials. Invest in facial mask or make some at home. Before you can apply any make up you have o start on healthy skin. try out different system for at least a month to see which one your skin likes. and make sure you follow up with a good moisture creme. Always make sure you never sleep in makeup.
  • Lip liner. Lip liners are for shaping the lip. When picking a lip liner always use a shade or two darker than the lip stick. Never match the lip color or choose a color lighter than.First apply lipstick to the lip leaving outer corners and edges bare and pat lips together. Then apply the lip liner to out edges and corner to define the shape of the lip.
